Article writing and marketing requires that you write to a specific niche. At the same time, I see so many people struggle with how to determine what niche is right for them.

There are many strategies for helping you to determine your niche. One of my favorites that clearly pays off long term is "The Pipeline Strategy." Let's take a closer look at this strategy and how to apply it to your article writing.

Using The Pipeline Strategy

The pipeline strategy refers to thinking of the needs of your niche on a continuum. In other words, what do they need now, and what might they need later?

For example, writing to singles is a good example of a pipeline niche. Singles have a certain set of needs. The nice thing for you is that many singles become couples, who then have their own set of needs. Many couples then have children, and there is another set of needs. Sometimes couples get divorced, bringing in another set of needs. Divorced people are single again, and then you have come full cycle. You want to be able to write and market to your niche all throughout this continuum.

Another example are people who are employed full time and want to start a home based business. You want to be able to meet their needs throughout this cycle and pipeline.

Many writers believe they will cast a larger net by writing to everyone. Quite the opposite is the reality however. When you try to write to everyone you wind up writing to no one.
